Lois Creamer’s Journey with Book More Business, Second Edition (Make MORE Money Speaking)
Lois realized that her first book, Book More Business, needed updating when she met with two young speakers while they were in her hometown. “We started talking about virtual presentations, AI, and licensing, and I suddenly realized that my book mentions nothing about these current realities of selling and positioning speaking services,” Lois shares. “That’s when I knew I needed to either write a new book or update my first book.”
The speaking industry has evolved quite a bit since Lois’s book first came out in 2017, especially in light of the pandemic and meeting planner’s movement to in-person only events, to virtual-only events, and now to hybrid events. Virtual is here to stay. It is now a big part of most speakers’ businesses. It’s also a great sales tool. AI has changed the speaking industry, and we’re still in its infancy! Speakers are using AI to prospect, create content, outline presentations, create slides, and much more.
Lois’s book has been used as a standard in the industry and is consistently being used by National Speakers Association chapters and Academies to educate members on strategies for making money as professional speakers. Her book has consistently sold to this relatively small niche market since its first publication.
The first decision was easy: with an established brand, offering a new edition of her “classic” was a great option.
First, Lois reread her book, looking for what’s changed and what’s the same. Many chapters needed only minor updates, while completely new sections were needed. Since the first book was written as a “blog2book,” Lois could first review newer blog posts to see if these could be added. “There’s no need to reinvent the wheel,” Lois shares. “Cathy Fyock, my book coach, always advised me to repurpose my writing.” Lois repurposed blog posts and added fresh content on sales, presentations, using artificial intelligence in many aspects, licensing of videos and more.
For her launch, Lois teamed with book launch strategist and owner of The BizBook Publishing Hub, Robbie Samuels, who coordinated her launch. Lois first discussed that she was working on an updated version of her book in her communities and on social media, then invited her audiences and followers to sign up for her launch team. Team members were sent an electronic Advanced Reader Copy of the completed book, and asked to write a review that was submitted on a Google doc.
The launch team was invited to attend a special “thank you” virtual program, offering tips and ideas from the book. Over 60 enthusiastic launch members attended.
Once the book was “official” on Amazon, launch team members were asked to first purchase the $.99 ebook special, then submit their review as a “verified” review. This team and any followers were invited to the “Public Launch Party”, to join Lois in celebrating the book, and were afforded the opportunity to win prizes!
By the time the book had “officially” launched, she had 112 positive reviews on Amazon! On launch day Lois offered a celebratory webinar with over 160 participants registered.
She plans to offer an audio version of the new book in 2025.
