Tools to Assist Those in Job Transition
Tough
economic times call for aggressive measures to help those who are in job
transition. This month I wanted to highlight a number of services
for those who are either seeking support, or want to help their
employees, friends, and colleagues experiencing unemployment or underemployment.
AARP Offers Online Class for Over 50 Job Seekers
Whether
you're already retired, approaching retirement, or think you'll never
retire, a new course being offered throughout the Kentucky Community and
Technical College System (KCTCS) can help you figure out where employment
opportunities might fit in your future.
But looking for work is never easy. Making Age an Asset in Your Job Search
can help with those special challenges older job seekers sometimes face
and direct you to employers who are looking for experienced workers.
Because the course in online, the weather and the cost of gas aren't even
concerns! Plus, the course is instructor-facilitated, which means
you have access to help through a Discussion Area any time you have
questions.
The cost of this class is only $42. Visit www.aarp.org/kyjobs, scroll down to Making Age an Asset in Your
Job Search, and register now.
Job Transition
Ministry in Louisville
For
several years I have helped to form a job transition ministry that meets at
Christ Church United Methodist in Louisville.
I welcome your inquiry if you know of someone who would like to be added
to our listserv to receive meeting notices, job listings, and other
information for Louisville
area job seekers.
In the past year I have received a number of inquiries from HR
professionals who want to sponsor similar programs in their faith
communities. To that end I am organizing an Interfaith Job
Transition Ministry Vision Team, meeting on January 25 from 2:00 - 3:30
p.m. at Christ
United Methodist
Church, for people
who would like to begin a faith-based job transition program. My
vision is to create a network of professionals who will share information
regarding their programs so that we don't have to either reinvent the
wheel or duplicate services being offered by a nearby church. I'd
like for us to share job postings, ideas for programming, and other
career information. Call me if you would like to participate, or if
you'd like information to begin your own program in your hometown.
ExecuNet Chapter formed in Louisville
Beginning
in January 2009, an ExecuNet Chapter will be formed in Louisville to support senior executives
in transition. Sponsored by Resources Global Professionals,
FranNet, and Semonin Realtors, the chapter will offer monthly meetings
for networking and programming.
The first meeting, on January 15, 2009, will feature Dr. Glenn Rodriguez,
Dean of McKendree College, who will share his personal stories of job
transition and growth. Please contact Cathy Fyock for more
information.
